Inverse wave scattering with discontinuous wave speed

چکیده
The inverse scattering problem on the line is studied for the generalized Schrodinger equation (d* f/V&*) + @H(X)* fi= Q(X) $, where H(x) is a positive, piecewise continuous function with positive limits H, as x --+ 2~. This equation, in the frequency domain, describes the wave propagation in a nonhomogeneous medium, where Q(X) is the restoring force and l/H(x) is the variable wave speed changing abruptly at various interfaces. A related Riemann-Hilbert problem is formulated, and the associated singular integral equation is obtained and proved to be uniquely solvable. The solution of this integral equation leads to the recovery of H(x) in terms of the scattering data consisting of Q(X), a reflection coefficient, either of H + , and the bound state energies and norming constants. Some explicitly solved examples are provided.

Numerical modelling of induced rip currents by discontinuous submerged breakwaters
Submerged breakwaters are one of the shore protective structures. Any discontinuity in these breakwaters causes changes on current parameters including speed and water surface profile. In this paper, discontinuous submerged breakwaters were modelled to investigate the changes in the wave and flow pattern. To investigate the phenomenon, three models including a shore with constant slope, a shore ...
متن کاملA High Order Approximation of the Two Dimensional Acoustic Wave Equation with Discontinuous Coefficients
This paper concerns with the modeling and construction of a fifth order method for two dimensional acoustic wave equation in heterogenous media. The method is based on a standard discretization of the problem on smooth regions and a nonstandard method for nonsmooth regions. The construction of the nonstandard method is based on the special treatment of the interface using suitable jump conditio...
متن کاملScattering and inverse scattering in one-dimensional nonhomogeneous media
The wave propagation in a one-dimensional nonhomogeneous medium is considered, where the wave speed and the restoring force depend on location. In the frequency domain this is equivalent to the Schrijdinger equation d2$/dx2 + k211, = k2P(x)II, + Q(x)Jt with an added potential proportional to energy. The scattering and bound-state solutions of this equation are studied and the properties of the ...
متن کاملA Time-Domain Method for Shape Reconstruction of a Target with Known Electrical Properties (RESEARCH NOTE)
This paper uses a method for shape reconstruction of a 2-D homogeneous object with arbitrary geometry and known electrical properties. In this method, the object is illuminated by a Gaussian pulse, modulated with sinusoidal carrier plane wave and the time domains’ footprint signal due to object presence is used for the shape reconstruction. A nonlinear feedback loop is used to minimize the diff...
متن کاملWave imaging
This chapter discusses imaging methods related to wave phenomena, and in particular inverse problems for the wave equation will be considered. The first part of the chapter explains the boundary control method for determining a wave speed of a medium from the response operator which models boundary measurements. The second part discusses the scattering relation and travel times, which are diffe...
